I was bored and waiting for the butter for my cupcakes to reach room temperature and, then it hit me. Why not make the dogs some treats to enjoy as well? In my sympathetic, dog loving world it just wouldn’t be fair for everyone to stuff their face with cupcakes while the dogs longingly watch in hopes for one themselves.
I whipped open my laptop and began to search for dog treat recipes on Flickr (I like having images to be able to see what I’m making). I actually found quite a few (listed at the end of this post), but finally chose one by 52 Cupcakes because I actually had all the ingredients for it and it sounded pretty good.
Heart Shaped Dog Treats!
Dog Treats
(Recipe from 52 Cupcakes.)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 4 teaspoons milk
- 2-1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Handful of cheese, bacon bits, or other things they’ll love. (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a medium bowl, mix together oil, honey, vanilla, egg, and milk.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and any optional things you felt like adding. (I added some shredded cheese, bacon bits, and chopped up pieces of their dog sausage.)
- Combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture and stir thoroughly.
- Knead dough on lightly floured surface and roll out about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut shapes, then place on a greased cookie sheet to bake for 15 minutes.
Brady seemed a little unsure about it at first, but I guess he liked them!
Even Sammy wanted to know what was going on.
